Measuring instuments - HP 37732A interface tester

We can make tests with the HP 37732A interface tester on the following interfaces:

• ITU-T G.703 2048 kbit/s (PCM interface)
• ITU-T G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional
• ITU-T V.24/V.28 or EIA RS232C
• ITU-T V.11 or EIA RS449
• ITU-T V.35

Operation modes:
The tester has tow principle operation modes, which we can set by using the TEST SELECT button on the cover of the convertible face of the interface tester:

• Telecom (measures happen on the ?G? interfaces)
• Datacom (measures happen on the ?V? interfaces)

Measures:

• interface testing (signal levels, synchronization, framing)
• generation of a framed signal
• measuring of the bit error rate

Handling:
Switch the instrument on with help of the button on its right side. Before switching we must control, if the access cable of the convertible face is accessed to the connector at the right side of the tester. Handling of the tester will happen in the menu system. We can boot menus to the display with the buttons at the right side of the built-in display.

• SETTINGS - measure selection, giving the measuring parameters
• RESULTS - selection of display of measuring results
• GRAPHS - display of measuring results in graphic format
• OTHER - measuring tool setup, optional parameters

We can move in the menu appearing on the display with the arrow buttons, and we can choose from the offered values with the buttons at the bottom of the display. During handling the first step will be the selection of the measuring configuration in the SETTINGS/Application menu, which we would like to use. We can choose from the following configurations in Telecom operation mode:

• 2 Mb/s BER - measuring of bit error rate on a PCM interface
• 64 kb/s BER - measuring of bit error rate on a 64 kbit/s interface
• 2 Mb/s FM SIM - PCM frame simulation
• 2 Mb/s TX 64 kb/s RX - measuring between PCM and 64 kbit/s interface
• 64 kb/s TX 2 Mb/s RX - measuring between PCM and 64 kbit/s interface
• Datacom - switching over for measurements on "V" interfaces
