Control questions
You must give an answer to 5 questions at the beginning of the laboratory exercise. One wrong answer will make the mark given to the measuring with one grade worse. Two or more wrong answers will result a supplementary measuring! You will not find any answers in the aid for questions with subject of circuit diagrams! We would like to learn about the creative abilities of students here.
- Which kind of information can an interface specification contain?
- Give the build-up of the interface testers, and their most important characteristics!
- Give the operation principle of the phase jitter measurer!
- Draw a low-pass and high-pass filter circuit with a variable boundary frequency which can be used even in a phase jitter measurer!
- Draw the block scheme of a PLL! Can the PLL be used for clock recovery?
- What can mark the beginning of a frame in an E1 time frame?
- What is the criterion of the FAS frame synch outage and restoration in case of PCM framing?
- Review the basic maintenance signals which can occur on the E1, STM-1, or GBE interfaces!
- Review the build-up of the STM-1 frame!
- How many percent of the payload is the overhead in the STM-1 frame in the case of VC-12 multiplexing?

- Review the process of mapping of a E1 signal flow to the SDH!
- What is the difference between an asynchronous and a synchronous mapping? Which kind of method would you apply in the case of transmission of an unframed digital signal?
- Review the build-up of an Ethernet II. MAC frame in the case of GBE interface!
- Review the hierarchy levels of the PDH and the SDH!
- How continuity test works?
- What is the GBIC? What distance can be bridged with it?
- What are VC-n, TU-n, AU-n, and STM-n in the SDH?
- How many E1 frames can be fitted into an VC-12 container?
- How many STM-1 frames are used to transmit a TU-12 component?
- What is the pointer in the SDH?
- What are the functions of the line receiver of a digital line interface?
- What are the functions of the line transmitter of a digital line interface?
- Review the concept of the phase jitter and the wander!

- How can you measure and evaluate the shape of a signal moving through an interface?
