TTMER25: Data transmission over access network (ADSL2, ADSL2+, VLAN, WLAN, WAN protocols)
Measuring report:
Name of the students:
......................
......................
Date of measurement:...................
Mandatory measuring tasks:
Choose one from configuration sheets provided by the teacher, than based on this
establish a working ADSL connection and carry out measurements on that connection!
A "configuration sheet" looks like as follows:
Switch an analogue telephone user to the Internet through ADSL port 'x' of DSLAM with a
speed of 'y'. Between DSLAM and DSLGW use VLAN 'z'.
User is far from the service provider, on the limit of distance achievable via ADSL.
The copper pair of user is located inside a 100 pair homogenous cable. Other pairs of the
cable are loaded with incompatible transmission systems.
To establish WLAN connection using the following parameters: ESSID: "string" 'c' channel,
WEP-key: "string" 5 karakter
Detailed tasks:
- 1. Study the management interfaces of devices used in the measurement, then
based on these answer the following questions:
- 1.1 DSLGW
- In the block diagram of the xDSL network the ports of DSLGW was denoted by letters
A, B, and C. How was identified these ports (actually network interfaces) in DSLGW?
- What kind of VLANs was implemented by the service provider? What priority levels,
user names, and IP addresses belong to them in DSLGW?
- 1.2 DSLAM
- How many bearer channels was implemented in the ADSL layer?
- To which port of DSLAM is connected the management terminal?
- 1.3 ADSL modem + WLAN router
- What is the IP address range of modem's DHCP server? What is the start address?
- What is the ESSID used in the modem before configuration? What kind of
security solutions was used for the protection of WLAN network?
- 2. Based on the parameters described on the configuration sheet and gathered during Task 1
carry out the configuration of the devices participating in the measurement!
Write down the value of modified parameteres in the report and explain, why those
values was set!
- 2.1 DSLGW
Configuration of DSLGW is not the issue of the laboratory exercise!
- 2.2 DSLAM / LAN switch
Relevant menus:
Do not forget, that the data transmission is duplex on the ports of the switch!
- 2.3 DSLAM / ADSL modem, ATM Virtual Channels
Relevant menus:
- 2.4 Cable simulator
Relevant menus:
- 2.5 ADSL modem + WLAN router
Relevant menus:
- 3. Test the connection, then perform measurements on it!
- 3.1 Testing with the test loop of modem
- 3.2 Internet transmission test (ping)
- 3.3 Measurement on the ADSL (line) layer
Relevant menus:
- 3.4 Measurement of the connection set up protocol (PPPoE) with Wireshark
If the we have connection to the Internet in the begining of this task, we
have to disconnect (eg. unplug the jack) and wait some minute.
Study the recordings, then draw the message sequence diagram of the set up
based on the recordings!
Facultative measuring task:
- Discover, correct and report the misconfiguration done by teacher!
In the report include the next:
- Description of the errror
- Diagnostic tools applied to identify the cause of the error (eg. Wireshark)
