TTMER1: Interface testing

Introduction

During the measurement students get to know the data changing cables of the most important standard surfaces, interfaces used in telecommunication, and their electrical and functional characteristics, and operation and build-up of external and internal (built-in) measuring tools (interface testers) used for the examination of interfaces.

The objects of the measurement are the user side (line) interfaces of an Ericsson AXD 305 type MSS of the test network. Interfaces being showed:

The E1 or PCM interface with speed of 2048 kbit/s, according to the Recommendation G.703 of ITU-T.
The general digital interface with speed of 155 Mbit/s (STM-1), according to the recommendation of ITU-T G.707.
The Ethernet interfaces with speed of 1000 Mbit/s (1000-BASEF), according to the IEEE 802.3 standard.

The above mentioned interfaces are the standardized interfaces of numerous telecommunication technologies (TDM, Packet Base (Ethernet/IP/VoIP); PCM, PDH, SDH), and used first of all (and here) for connecting the classical circuit-switched network elements to a modern packet-switched (IP based) network. So during the exercise it is possible to deepen the learned theoretical knowledge of these technologies. Theoretical abstract is in the Tutorial. It is useful to read this one for the preparation instead of various abstracts to avoid mistakes.
