Introduction

BCM50 exchange which is an important element of the telecommunication test network was delivered by Kapsch Hungary for educational purposes to TMIT.
Exchange is located at the IB.213 laboratory room:

BCM type symbol derives from initials of Business Communication Manager, and it is the name of a tool usable for modern business communication purposes. Exchange is the product of a Canadian firm named NORTEL, which belongs to the frontline of the world, and its subsidiary company is the Austrian firm named Kapsch. Exchange can serve 16-100 lines, depending on its build-up. Its main application field is to provide communication (mainly telecommunication) services for smaller offices, institutes, hotels.

Switching of lines is made by a switching field based on the principle of packet-switching (Ethernet switch). Connection of lines to the switching fields is provided by the wide range of peripheric adapters. Manufacturer processes numerous peripheric adapters, they are the following:

Control of switching field is made by a built-in computer on the basis of a program stored in the computer.
Control with a stored program can realize also several flexible services - programmable by the user - besides switches (call holding, call redirection, automatic callback).

Circuits of the exchange are located in 3 boxes covered with plastic, which are 2 inches tall and their floorspaces are as large as a sheet sized A4.
